When you begin furnishing and decorating your bedroom, it’s important to get the basics before you get anything else. That means you need a bed frame, mattress, sometimes a box spring, a nightstand to hold all of your bedside essentials and bedroom storage so that way you have a place to store your wardrobe. There aren’t many storage solutions that you can choose from, besides a closet your options are a chest of drawers and a dresser. Each one has their own pros and cons, but out of the two which one is the better choice for you?

Chest of Drawers
Chests are known for having a tall and narrow design, allowing it to fit into small spaces with ease. This makes them the perfect choice for those who have small bedrooms. These storage pieces are also amazing for those who have high ceilings, this is because their height creates visual balance. There are 4 different types of chests that you can choose from, depending on your needs. Your options are a standard chest, door chest, media chest and narrow chest.
- Standard Chest: These have around 4-6 drawers and are standard chest size.
- Door / Gentleman’s Chest: This variation has a tall cabinet that can either have a rod to hang up your formal wear or built-in shelves for more storage. Also known to be taller than standard chests.
- Media Chest: This option is versatile, perfect for both the bedroom and the living room because of the open top shelf and the height makes it a perfect place to put the TV.
- Narrow Chest: Taller and way more narrow than standard chests, these are perfect for storing small articles of clothing, undergarments and even jewelry.
However, while they are perfect for small spaces, if you have a large wardrobe that you have to store, chests are not the choice for you and you’ll want to look into getting a dresser instead.

Dressers
If a chest of drawers does not offer what you want or need, a dresser might be the better option for you. Dressers are known for having a lengthy and short design, having it take up more floor space but also offering more storage. The deeper drawer depths on dressers allow you to store more clothing in each drawer, unlike a chest which has more shallow drawers. They also have some options that can come with a matching mirror, making them more functional. You can either attach the mirror to the back of the dresser directly, or some have the option of hanging it on the wall, usually right above the dresser. With everything you know about both options and what they are known for, you can determine which one suits you best.

When choosing your bedroom storage solution, you have to think about the space you have available and how large or small your wardrobe is. If you don’t have a lot of floor space and have a relatively small wardrobe, a chest is your best choice. However, if you have more floor space to spare and a large wardrobe, a dresser is your best choice. Ready to start your search for a new chest or dresser? You can start looking online here!
